Football Fan Knocked Unconscious By Attacker Outside Chelsea Stadium (Photos)

A football fan was left bloodied and ‘lucky to be alive’ after allegedly being battered with a cosh and knuckleduster outside a Premier League ground. Chelsea fan Edward Gumm, 36, was knocked unconscious after being hit from behind while searching in his wallet for his tickets outside Stamford Bridge.

The married father-of-two from Bexley, South East London, was left with a dislocated jaw and bruising and swelling from where his head hit the ground.

Mr Gumm was given ten stitches after being taken to Chelsea and Westminster Hospital and missed his side’s 2-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.

The human resources director – who has had a season ticket for 31 years – was hit by someone wielding a cosh and wearing a knuckleduster, according to his family.

The Metropolitan Police confirmed officers are investigating the incident, but said they were looking into reports that Mr Gumm was punched rather than coshed.
