Primary School in Enugu Apologises for Threatening Pupils with Armed Police

A Primary school in Enugu, Early Dew Montessori Academy, has apologised to the Enugu state ministry of education after a teacher with the school invited armed policemen to the school to threaten little pupils.

Premium Times reports that the primary school children are between the ages of four and seven and the teacher had invited the armed officers to put the fear of God in them for failure to do their assignments.

It wasn’t long ago that some teachers of Federal Government College Calabar protested against DSS brutality at the offices of both the Cross Rivers governor and speaker of the house. This was after an SS3 student invited her DSS relative to beat up teachers in the school. I wonder what those teachers would say if they learn of this ‘brutal’ act by one of their colleagues.

The Enugu state Commissioner for Education, Uche Eze, upon receiving reports of the sad incident, had visited the school. Thereafter, the commissioner had withdrawn the school’s operational licence after confirming that the incident took place.

The letter of apology tendered by the school and addressed to the Commissioner for Education, Enugu State reads in part:

“We apologise most profusely for the embarrassment to your esteemed office and the Executive Governor of the State whose unfailing support for the education sector seemed to have been sullied.

The school also tendered our unqualified apologies to all those out there whose sense of decency and civility may have been offended by the unfortunate incident.

The unprofessional act was most uncalled for as it was overzealousness by the head teacher taken too far.

There was no intention whatsoever to arrest any child as alleged as no child was taken outside the school premises.

We appeal most humbly that the closure of the school be lifted so that our children are not unduly affected negatively by the continued closure of the school.

The Enugu State government is yet to react to this letter. But do you think the school should have the suspension of their license lifted?
