Chelsea top scorer Diego Costa has called on the Blues to effectively end Manchester City’s title hopes when the two sides meet in a blockbuster Premier League clash at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday.
Antonio Conte’s men encountered an unexpected bump on their way to the title on Saturday, going down 2-1 at home to relegation threatened Crystal Palace to cut their lead at the top to seven points.
And Costa, who has seen his goals dry up since the turn of the year, says the loss should be a wake-up call for the champions-elect, Evening Standard writes.
“Now is not the time to let ourselves down,” Costa said.
“We should keep our heads up and think ahead for the next game since it will be very important.
“This game against City will be a six-point affair since if we win…they will (effectively) be out of the title race while we keep the advantage.”
Chelsea were 3-1 winners when both sides clashed at the Etihad in December, while City won 3-0 at Stamford Bridge last April.
City talisman Sergio Aguero scored a hat-trick then and was also on target against Arsenal at the weekend, leaving manager Pep Guardiola with some hope.
“We know what we have to do against Chelsea. We head back to Manchester to prepare and then back down to London,” said Pep.
Chelsea will be boosted with the return of Nigerian wing-back Victor Moses, who missed the defeat to Palace with a calf injury.
