A carpet python got itself into serious problem after eating a meal that is too big for its stomach causing its skin to tear.
The carpet python’s skin was torn as a result of eating a big animal
A python seemed to have bitten off more than it could chew by taking on, of all things, a possum causing it to tear its skin.
According to Dailymail, a video uploaded to Facebook page Sunshine Coast Snake Catchers 24/7, shows the skin of the carpet python beginning to split where the marsupial has seemingly put up a fight.
The reptile catcher named Lockie, explains in the video that the snake had injured itself after devouring its prey.
‘He’s missing a lot of skin, along, underneath that food item,’ Lockie said.
‘So whatever it was, it put up a really good fight. And it’s actually opened him up.’
The video included a short post about the snake and where it was found.
‘Check out the size of this big Coastal Carpet Python we were called out to relocate this morning from a residence in Buderim,’ the post began.
‘The snake had quite obviously just won a battle against a relatively large prey item, which later turned out to be a Ring-tailed Possum.
The snake tries several times to bite Lockie but the reptile expert manages to evade the lightning fast strikes.
‘As you can see from the video, the big guy didn’t really appreciate being disturbed and was quick to throw some strikes my way,‘ the post continued.
‘This behaviour is fairly common with snakes that have recently swallowed large food items, which I explain in greater detail in the footage, this was also probably partly due to the wound that he no doubt would have sustained whilst taking down his recent prey.’
The post finished by saying that the snake was safely relocated to some nearby bushland. Several concerned viewers asked if the snake required stitches to which the snake catcher said that the wound was only superficial and should heal fine.
